The Smith Center for the Performing Arts of Las Vegas

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts of Las Vegas

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts of Las Vegas is without a doubt the single best thing that has happened to Las Vegas in recent years! From the Smith Center’s own webpage, “The center was designed by world-renowned architect David M. Schwarz and crafted out of pristine Indiana limestone. Each theater was then meticulously designed by expert consultants Fisher Dachs Associates and acoustician firm Akustiks to provide unparalleled sound and sight lines.” All those fancy words to say…OMG, the Smith Center ROCKS!

Let me start at the beginning of our date night. One of our fave places for a fancy dinner out that doesn’t require a second mortgage is Top of the World at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. The view is positively breathtaking! Here was our view.

The service was wonderful, as it always is and our dinner was amazing! Of course, I enjoyed a Chicksinger made wine flight! For appetizers, we had the Shrimp and Lobster ceviche, Lobster Bisque (absolutely killer!) and a salad and I enjoyed a sparkling Charles Lafite, France (NV). It wasn’t as dry as like, but very refreshing, indeed with a light, crisp flavor. Next, I enjoyed a glass of Chardonnay, Casa Lapostolle, Casa Blanca Valley, 2011. A very nice glass, and totally different than I usually drink as this is a Chilean wine, which is a cooler region and they finish in steel barrels. Overall, minerally, fresh, pineapple overtones.

For dinner I had a Filet Mignon which was PERFECTLY cooked to order! LOVE that! My wine choice was a Cabernet from Napa, Pine Ridge, “Forefront”, which was delish, full bodied and just what I was hoping for! You can see how happy I was with my dinner!

Now it’s time to head out to the Smith Center for my NUMBER 1 MUSICAL THEATRE SHOW OF ALL TIME….Wicked! I love this show for SO many reasons. Female leads, love story of a different kind, the “not” typical girl wins the boy (hooray!) and the music is utterly breathtaking.

We decided to go all out and get box seats. Seriously, I will NEVER buy anything but a box seat! Here is my view from our seats which were Box S. You even get a cocktail server who will bring drinks for you!

Here is a panorama of Reynolds Hall of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts,

taken from my seat with the new Panorama feature on my iPhone!

It was a spectacular evening for us and I highly recommend you check out the Smith Center upcoming schedule here.   I’m hoping my next trip to the Smith Center will be for the Cabaret Jazz series with Artist-in-residence, Clint Holmes, an absolute favorite local entertainer of Las Vegas. The Addams Family is the next Broadway on the roster…get those tickets!
