This year, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art has scheduled a huge day full of festivities to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth. If you didn’t know (I didn’t), Juneteenth is the commemoration of the end of slavery in the state of Texas celebrating emancipation and freedom. The Eiteljorg museum is offering FREE museum admission on Saturday, June 20, 2015 (10 am-4 pm) so you and your family can join the celebration.

The performance stage include storytellers, music and performances. One of the performances, Abraham by Danny Russel, I’ve seen before at my son’s school and it was really impressive. Everyone there was entertained while at the same time learning about President Lincoln.

There will also be a history stage and activities ranging from candle making to outdoor gold panning to participating in a group art project. There will be tours of the Gold! Riches and Ruin exhibit with a curator and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis will be there with hands-on activities for the family. Food vendors will also be on site. For a full schedule please see the Juneteenth Celebration page on the Eiteljorg Museum website.

The following week, on June 27-28, 10 am-5 pm, the Eiteljorg Musuem will hold its Indian Market and Festival at Military Park. In my last post, I wrote about how the Indian Market is a hidden gem for families in Indianapolis. There is entertainment, food, activities for the kids and of course, the Indian Market. For a full listing of entertainment and vendors click here. The cost of the Indian Market and Festival is $10 in advance and $12 the day of for adults and free for kids under 17 AND it includes admission to the festival plus the museum itself. It’s such a good deal since regular admission to the museum is $12 for adults and $6 for kids 5-17. You’ll actually save money on admission and get so much more than going on any other day. You can get tickets to the Indian Market and Festival here.

Today’s Mama readers have the chance to two tickets to the Indian Market! I have two sets of two tickets to give away. I’ll randomly select two winners. To enter, leave a comment of something you want to see or do at the Eiteljorg Museum or what you love about the Eiteljorg Museum. After you leave a comment, make sure to click on the link below to complete your entry and for extra entries. Good luck!
