It’s almost here, both daunting and glorious – SUMMER! Every May we start making our “Summer Bucket List” with all of the things that we’d like to do. The list includes all kinds of fun things, and inevitably has a list of all of the things I think we should be doing to resist the urge to lay on the couch and watch Netflix or play video games.

I always intend to have some sort of summer reading program but outside of encouraging the kids to read, I’ve never put anything formal together. I stumbled across the “Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge” the other day and it’s perfect!

Here’s how it works:

  • Join the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge
  • Read and log minutes all summer
  • Take weekly challenges and earn rewards
  • Help set a new world record!

The Summer Reading Challenge goes from May 5th – September 5th 2014. You can actually start tracking minutes NOW. My son earned his first badge this week.

So go ahead and throw this reading challenge on your summer bucket list! We’ve even got a printable summer “to-do” list you can start working on now!

Happy reading!
