Still mourning the death of Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey? See what Dan Stephens is up to in his post-Downton Abbey life.

If you’re a fan of Downton Abbey like me, we spent last week just like Lady Mary, mourning the death of Matthew Crawley (played by actor Dan Stevens).
He’s gone. He’ll never see little George grow up to be the next caretaker of Downton. Thankfully, by the end of Episode 1, Lady Mary rejoined the land of the living.

But what about Dan Stevens?

Following his departure from the Downton Abbey cast, Mr. Stevens moved to New York and starred in The Heiress on Broadway. But did you know that years before his career-boosting role as Matthew Crawley, Mr. Stevens was working to bring to life another story of a young man set in the 1910s?

Summer in February is a film starring Dan Stevens, which he also helped to produce. The film is based on a true story, as captured in the novel written by Johnathan Smith, about the love triangle involving British artist, Alfred Munnings. Set in a Bohemian artist colony in Cornwall, the film captures the dramatics of two men who fall in love with the same woman.

Mr. Stevens was interviewed on the Today Show and noted that the project was inspired by his college professor, Johnathan Smith, a retired English professor at Tonbridge. Stevens said it’s taken eight or nine years to bring the work to film.

If you’re in need of a “Dan Stevens” fix, you’ll be happy to know the film has been released in select US theaters and is also available through video on demand.
