School’s out for the summer around here and I am super excited about it. I’m ready for days that revolve around the “Three P’s”….the pool, the park, and popsicles.
We’ve got a summer full of camping and travel ahead of us too and I think I’m more stoked than my kids to adventure our way through this summer.
One new-to-us part of our travel plans is Audible.

An audiobook from Audible is a great way to pass the time while road tripping or traveling by air, and easy to enjoy together at your destination. While I really love reading to my kiddos, it’s also really nice to be able to sit back, or snuggle in and let myself get swept away by the story right along with them.
Listening to a book is also a MARVELOUS way to make it through the witching hour with kiddos. The time between around 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM has been giving us a run for our money. The other day (in a huff of frustration, if I’m being honest) I turned on Peter Pan as I was cooking dinner because the bickering between my 8 and 5 year old was wearing me out.

Something wonderful happened…they became enthralled in the story. Both of them came to sit down at the kitchen counter, to get closer to the bluetooth speaker, and we all enjoyed dinner prep far more than we had in a few weeks.
So now, besides being a must-have for traveling, Audible, has become a fixture of our kitchen in the evening, and it a great option for kiddo quiet time without the zoning out that comes with other screen time.

I’m new to Audible and have become hooked. I like that I can use it on multiple devices and it gives me that option to start listening where I left of by device or by title. Handy for when my girl wanted to listen to Peter Pan on her own on our iPad, but was happy to relisten when we wanted to listen as a family from my iPhone.
So here is our family summer listening list—plus a list just for me, because I usually end up sitting on a plane, or riding shotgun while every other member of the family is occupied (sleeping, watching a movie, playing sudoku, or fretting over the gas mileage) and now I’ll have something to enjoy that’s just for me.
You can get a free 1-month trial to Audible, and download the book of your choice for free (my girl would strongly recommend Peter Pan, narrated by the lovely Lily Collins) and start building your own summer reading list!
