Erin’s Summer Bucket List

Erin’s Summer Bucket List…everything from what we’re going to do, movies we’re going to see, food we’re going to eat, and crafts we’re going to enjoy.

Summer is right around the corner!

And I may or may not be experiencing a little summer PTSD.

Last summer was rough. My happy boy was a newborn and he was a wee bit on the fussy side. He wasn’t sleeping. I wasn’t sleeping. We had some feeding issues to work out. I felt like my girl was getting the short end of the stick.

Our big weekly activity was going to the grocery store.

I’d say there’s some room for improvement, wouldn’t you agree?

Here’s my Summer Bucket List…everything from what we’re going to do, movies we’re going to see, food we’re going to eat, and crafts we’re going to enjoy.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Host a sprinkler party. Kids get to party. Moms get to put their feet up and drink lemonade. Everyone wins.

Camp out in the backyard. I LOVED this as a kid. I know my girl will be thrilled.

Hike. My girl is old enough to trek through the woods. I’m now in good enough shape to haul my son around on my back. This post from Make and Takes is full of great tips for hiking with kids.

Ride our bikes! We’re all finally old enough. (Ha!) My girl has a bike and the baby boy is big enough to ride in the bike trailer. This is big.

I have a deck and I love it more than I should. We ate outside a whopping two times last year. I plan on dining al fresco at least two times a week.

Speaking of the deck, I’ve got a few trees that are begging for a little twinkle light action.

KID CRAFTY GOODNESS

There is a point around mid-July when it becomes too swelteringly hot to play outside after, oh…9:00 A.M. My backdoor neighbors are well aquatinted with my jammies as we like to play outside first thing in the morning before it gets too hot…well, the kids play…I drink coffee on the deck. Here’s a list of the crafts that I’m going to save for those too-hot afternoons.

Cloud Dough

Sponge Towers

Velcro Craft Sticks

Baked Cotton Balls

OUT ON THE TOWN

Take my husband to see Chris Helmsworth…I mean, The Avengers.

Take my girl to see Brave.

Take Rachael to see Casa de mi Padre.

ME TIME

ReadThe Night Circus, To Kill a Mockingbird, andThe Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir.

Run a 5K. My husband offered to join me. OH. Now it’s ON.

Give Yoga a try.

Online Photography Class: Picture Summer from Tracey Clark. I did this a few years ago with my point-and-shoot and I loved it. I’m eager to take a stab at chronicling the summer with my Big Girl Camera.

DIY & ORGANIZING

Create a photo wall in my living room. My living room wall is currently sad and fairly bare. I’ve got photos begging to be framed and a nice pile of frames at the ready. Let’s do this.

Redo the mudroom. My mudroom is a wasteland of random cleaning supplies, shoes and a crib mattress. Yeah. That should stop. I’ll be drawing inspiration from here.

Hang curtains in my office. I’m going for bright and peppy.

FOOD

Oh sure, we’ll eat more than what’s on this list over the course of the summer. But I want to make sure that I enjoy all the dishes I’ve pinned that shout “The weather is warm! Eat me!” Here are some of those pushy dishes:

Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Sugar Chips

Strawberry Bruschetta

No Bake Strawberry Icebox Cake

Homemade Frozen Yogurt (Jane says it’s the BEST. I believe her.)

Iced Coffee Concentrate (So you can whip up an Iced Coffee anytime.)

Summer = Salad, agreed? Let’s try these:

Pasta Salad with Peas, Ricotta and Bacon

Neiman Marcus Chicken Salad

Tri-Color Pasta Salad

Delicious Chicken Salad

Since a list this long is a bit overwhelming, I’ll be using my printable To Do List for Fun to break our summer activities into bite-size weekly pieces.

Look for Summer Bucket Lists coming from the rest of the Today’s Mama staff this week.

What’s on your list for the summer?
