By now we’ve all heard the story of Jack Kennedy giving a speech in Berlin in the early ’60s. He meant to say that we stand in solidarity with the people of Berlin by saying, “Ich bin ein Berliner.” But “berliner” means jelly donut in German. Ah, the leader of the free world calling himself a jelly donut, good times.
If you don’t have a German bakery within walking distance (and that’s probably the best way to keep those calories at bay) then you need an awesome berliner recipe for your recipe box. I absolutely love to make donuts with my kids. They’re not complicated, so kids can help, and there’s something magical about those sweet, yeasty treats.
I found this recipe for plum jam filled berliners on Design Sponge.
