Chinese Hot Pot, A New Year’s Eve Tradition

If it’s not blatantly obvious, I love food.

I also love celebrating with my family. So we have a little New Year’s Eve tradition in our family.

We have Chinese Hot Pot, for our New Year’s Eve dinner.

A selection of our hot pot ingredients ready to be devoured.

Perhaps you’ve never heard about Chinese Hot Pot. Perhaps you have heard, but have never partaken. Perhaps, you are some of the lucky few that have devoured this meal, and know exactly what I’m talking about.

Trust me. It’s divine. I imagine the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus would agree.

It’s very simple. Create a delicious soup base, then prepare all the raw veggies, meat, seafood, noodles, and then sit down with those you love and cook it while you talk, eat, and enjoy the aromas. The finale occurs when all the flavors have danced together all night in the broth, and you finish your meal off with noodle soup. I’m already salivating thinking about having it again this year.

If you want a recipe, here’s Emeril’s recipe to dip your toe in.

For dessert, to maintain our theme – we have fondue, and watch the ball drop.

How do you celebrate? What do you eat?

Cheers!

ps. Here’s a peek into how we rang in 2010. I forgot to take pictures last year, as we had visitors.
