Donate to the Teddy Bear Drive benefitting the Glendale Fire Department’s Trauma Teddy Program. Meet the firefighters and see the fire truck on display from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

History of the Teddy Bear
President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt attended a Mississippi bear hunt in November 1902. Hunters captured a young bear, tied it to a tree, and offered to let the President take the killing shot. Roosevelt declined. Political cartoonist Clifford Berryman depicted the scene in a comic titled, “Drawing the Line in Mississippi.” In Berryman’s original cartoon the bear was fully grown but it was later redrawn as a cub. Inspired by the famous story and drawing, toy makers created “Teddy’s Bear” and the cuddly toy’s popularity grew, making it an American icon.
