Peter and the Starcatcher in San Francisco

I love that my daughters love the theater too.

My daughters and I attended the opening weekend for Peter and the Starcatcher in San Francisco at the Curran Theatre. We hadn’t read the books that the play is based on, we’d only heard great things about the play from friends who’d seen it.

What surprised me about Peter and the Starcatcher was how intimate the play felt. This is due, in large part, to the no frills production of the play. It felt very organic and clever how they used simple things to create the effects needed in the magical story. If you do go see the play, I loved the way they created doors, and the effect with the ropes. Such simplicity that was ingenious.

Peter and the Starcatcher is recommended for ages 10 and up. My daughters are seven and nine, and they actually laughed at many of the jokes, and enjoyed the story. There were a few bits where it was over their head, but once we understood who all the characters were, it was smooth sailing.

We were invited to meet some of the cast before the show, and the girls enjoyed interacting with the cast, and seeing some of the prep work the production team did before the show.

If we have one tip if you’re buying tickets to see Peter and the Starcatcher, try not to get seats near the exits on the mezzanine level. During intermission, the bathrooms were actively visited, and the wafting of the air once the second act started was a bit intolerable.
