Dying for a different movie to watch? I’m sharing some of the best on my Netflix’s Instant Watch list, hopefully a bunch of these are new to you!

Movies I Love, and You Will Too

Chalet Girl – I love this little movie of a broke English girl who gets a job at the vacation home of a super rich family.

Friends with Kids – Since all their friends are married and having children, best friends Jason and Julie decide that they could have a baby together, but still see other people.

Like Crazy – Romantic movie about an American man and a British woman who fall in love.

Robot and Frank – An aging man’s children arrange a robotic caretaker for him, but what he does with the robot no one saw coming. I saw this movie at Sundance and loved it.

The Rape of Europa – A riveting documentary showing how the Nazis plundered Europe’s art collection–it’s absolutely fascinating. Who do those art pieces really belong to? A must watch before you see the Hollywood movie The Monuments Men.

Aren’t Afraid of Subtitles? (or Even if You Are, Don’t be!)

I Do: How to Get Married and Stay Single – Parisian rake is tired of all his sisters bothering him about settling down, so he decides on an unconventional solution.

Romantics Anonymous – An incredibly awkward woman decides to apply for a job at a chocolate factory with an incredibly awkward owner, but she’s also hiding a delicious secret.

Blame it on Fidel – A child’s parents get caught up with 1970s radicals

Amelie – If you’ve never seen Amelie you need to stop what you’re doing IMMEDIATELY and watch it. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Classics You Shouldn’t be Missing:

Room with a View – One of the most romantic (and repressed!) movies ever, what happens when Lucy Honeychurch goes to Italy on vacation? If you love Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess on Downton Abbey, you need to see her fussy Cousin Charlotte in this movie.

It with Clara Bow – Find out for yourself why Clara Bow was the biggest star of her day.

The Apartment – Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon should NOT be getting involved, but sometimes, they can’t help themselves.

The Philadelphia Story – A socialite is about to remarry, but her ex shows up right before the wedding. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are so, so great.

Independent Movies that You’ll Love

Happy-Go-Lucky – A perennial optimist is matched with a grumpy driving teacher in a great little movie.

Frances Ha – Do you remember when your friends were the most important thing in your life, and then, one day, everyone started real jobs and got married?

Broken Flowers – A confirmed bachelor (played by Bill Murray) discovers he might have a child.

Safety Not Guaranteed – A man posts a classified ad seeking a companion to travel through time, could it be real?

The Virgin Suicides– Despite the title, this is a beautiful coming of age movie, both wistful and curious.

The Best TV You Haven’t Heard of Yet

Gavin and Stacey – What happens when two people from different backgrounds find each other. Funny, sweet, and quirky!

Terriers – A recently divorced man and his partner start a detective agency, but can he stay sober?

Luther – Introduce yourself to Idris Elba as a London detective.

North and South – Love Downton Abbey? This is your next step. And if all you can remember is the Patrick Swayze 80s miniseries of the same name, this Brit import is totally different.

What do you think? Did you find a Netflix movie to watch now? Anything you love that I missed?
