Now that you’ve had a chance to settle back into the routine of school, it’s time to get out and enjoy the start of Fall in Indianapolis. To get you started, here are 5 things to do in Indianapolis in September.
1.Indy Sister Cities International Fest
Admission is free to this multi-cultural festival that will be fun for the entire family. Downtown on Georgia Street from 12 p.m. -6 p.m. on September 6, this festival will feature food, music, kids zone and cultural booths.
2.Museum Before Midnight at the Children’s Museum
If you’ve ever stayed for the Members Play Late at the Children’s Museum, you’ll know how much fun it is to stay after hours with fewer people at NIGHT! This month, there will be a Museum Before Midnight event is much, much more than just the chance to play late at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Before the Terra Cotta Warriorsexhibit packs up in November, enjoy a night at the museum full of activities, behind the scenes tours, dinner and a dance party. Get your tickets for the Museum Before Midnight on September 13, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Tickets for members are $15/youth and $20/adults. For non-members, $25/youth and $30/adult.
3.Jerusalem film at IMAX Indy
The new National Geographic film, Jerusalem, opens at the downtown Indianapolis IMAX theater (at the Indiana State Museum) on September 19. I’ve already had the chance to preview this movie and it was phenomenal. I took my 8 year old son and he not only enjoyed the film, but turned to me and said, “Mom, I should have taken notes.” He was entertained, excited about learning and asked me great questions. The film offers a view of the Holy Land through the eyes of three young women – one Jewish, one Muslim and one Christian. I was not only impressed by what I learned but for the chance to see Jerusalem in a way I will likely never see in person. For showtimes and ticket information go the IMAX Indy website. 4.Fiesta Indianapolis!
The long-running festival comes back for its 34th year. Fiesta Indianapolis will be held on September 20, 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. Celebrate with music and food while enjoying the best of Latino art and culture. Admission is free to this festival held at the American Legion Mall.
5. Hispanic Heritage Fiesta at the Indianapolis Zoo
From 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. on September 21, the Indianapolis Zoo will help you join in the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month with special activities, decorations, food and live music. The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is included with admission to the Indianapolis Zoo.
