On July 7, 2012, the Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show will be flying high at Cedar Creek Lake (about 60 miles southeast of Dallas).

Expect a show jam-packed with excitement!  Some of the acts include: a MiG-17, Tora-Tora-Tora (this one looks intense – Japanese fighters and bombers simulating the Pearl Harbor attacks, complete with explosions), air acrobats, and even a Stealth Bomber (t0 name just a very few of the many acts performing…you can see a full list here).

Tora! Tora! Tora! - Japanese bombers and fighters - will dogfight over Cedar Creek Lake.

On July 6th, the Pilots Party will take place at the Pinnacle Club in Mabank.  This is your chance to meet the pilots, take pictures and get autographs (there will also be food and dancing!).  You can purchase tickets to the Pilots Party here.

The air show is free, although VIP seating can be purchased if you want to reserve a shoreline seat at the Pinnacle Club (tickets are $50 – this is a charitable donation to Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation).  The air show should be visible from most parts of Cedar Creek Lake.  I imagine it will be busy, but local restaurant Cedar Isle is right on the lake and should provide a great view!

I’ve also been told that renting a boat is a popular way to see the show (or bringing your own boat if you have one).  Don’s Port has boat rentals and a restaurant right on the shoreline, complete with outdoor seating and a second-story lounge.

Cedar Creek Lake is about 60 miles outside of Dallas.  It’s an easy drive (we used to live out that way and made the drive into Dallas Every. Single. Day. for work), but last year the air show brought quite a crowd, so be sure to leave early to give yourself enough time to get there and to find a spot.
