Things To Do With Kids in Washington DC

The holiday haze lifted from my house this past week, and I’m trying my hardest to embrace 2014 right now.

It’s hard with it being sooo cold– all I can think about is baseball games and cherry blossoms.

I finally sat down to write my goals for the upcoming year, and like last year, I have a few 2014 things to do with kids in Washington DC — DC resolutions, if you will — to help keep our family enjoying and exploring the area.

You may laugh at a few of them (I’ll admit– some are a bit silly), but hey, what’s a goal if it can’t be fun too?

My 2014 things to do in Washington, D.C.

  • Explore the Mosaic District in Fairfax. Practically down the street from my OBGYN, I think it deserves a stop after peeing in a cup and getting my blood pressure checked for the gazillionth time. With sweet stop, Dolcezza, and my favorite sandwich shop, Taylor— it could be the perfect reward when the weather warms. They also have free yoga on Thursday nights in Strawberry Park– and who doesn’t like free (and yoga)?
  • Speaking of Taylor, I tell my husband all the time about how I’m going to try every sandwich on their menu. They are super delicious. Maybe 2014 will be the year!? Currently my faves on the menu are the Vine Street Expressway and Locust Street. The Callowhill (spicy meatball) proved too spicy for this pregnant lady.
  • I will find a local gymnastics class for my very active toddler. She loves to balance on everything (admittedly her somersaults still need a bit of practice).
  • We will fly kites during the Blossom Kite Festival this spring. It’s been on my bucket list for too long now. In fact, we’re already singing “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!
  • We will go to the National Aquarium in Baltimore as a family. My husband and I have been before, but after a trip to a small aquarium in California, we’ve figured out our daughter loves the fish. I think a day in Baltimore is in order for us. Until March 28, admission is $12 after 5 p.m. on Fridays— a great deal considering the $34.95 regular adult admission price.
