With gas prices high, I imagine many families will be looking for local outings where they can spend their money having fun and not on the gas it takes to get there. Lots of fun adventures are right on our Dallas doorstep!

My family went to Hawaiian Falls for the first time this week. It’s so close to us that I can’t believe it was our first visit! We had a blast. With 100+ Texas days, a waterpark is the perfect place to cool off while having fun. And that’s precisely what we did.

I found Hawaiian Falls to be the perfect size for the ages of my kids.  My 9 year old and his friend could easily venture by themselves to a ride and check in at the “meeting spot” and my 6 year old had lots of fun in the pools, kid’s area, and the slides she was brave enough to try.  Personally I loved the lazy river and the wave pool.  So relaxing!

Hawaiian Falls has some great summer events that you won’t want to miss.  Every Tuesday through August 16th is their Maui Mom’s Club. Simple crafts geared towards kids aged 2-5 are available.  What a great way to take a break from the water and enjoy a little creativity!

Be sure to mark your calendars for Dive In movie nights, too! On Dive In movie night, the park stays open a little later.  After shutting the rides down at 8, make your way to the wave pool.  Waves shut down by 8:30 with the movie beginning at dusk, around 8:45.  Swim, float in a tube, sit in the water, or lounge in a chair as you enjoy the feature.  Movies are free to those with paid admission for the day or season pass holders.  Here’s what you can look forward to this summer…

July 15th ~ Justin Bieber : Never Say Never

July 22nd ~ Iron Man 2

July 29th ~ Kung Fu Panda

August 12th ~ Tron Legacy
