Staycation Destination :: Great Wolf Lodge

This is part of a series I am doing this summer on Staycation adventures.

With gas prices high, I imagine many families will be looking for local outings where they can spend their money having fun and not on the gas it takes to get there.  Lots of fun adventures are right on our Dallas doorstep!

Last weekend my family attended the 2nd annual Waterslide-Athon at Great Wolf Lodge, a fundraiser benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Across the 12 Great Wolf Lodge locations nationwide, for every slider that went down a designated slide, Great Wolf Lodge donated $1 to Big Brothers Big Sisters.  That, combined with various other fundraisers helped them with their goal of raising $250,000!  I love to hear of businesses giving back and helping others in such a way.

This was our first time going to Great Wolf Lodge.  I had heard great things about it but didn’t know what to expect.  I honestly felt like I had walked into another, almost magical world, when I stepped through the doors.  If you’re unfamiliar with Great Wolf Lodge, it’s North America’s largest family of indoor waterparks.  Throughout the entire hotel, you find yourself immersed in the theme of the Northwoods.  It’s quite fun to enter into this world for a window of time.

I found Great Wolf Lodge to be such a fun, kid friendly place while also offering an element of fun for the adults.  There are so many activities to keep your kiddos from boredom that at the end of the day, you plop down in your “den” to catch some zzzz’s before another fun filled day.  I asked my kids what their favorite part of Great Wolf Lodge was.  My 9 year old son quickly responded that the howling tornado was his absolute favorite slide.  My 6 year old daughter loved the waterpark in general as well as 8PM Pajama Story Time.
