Round up your herd for the Mesquite Texas Rodeo!

Growing up west of Fort Worth, the idea of rodeo was not a foreign one

My friends were all in 4-H, school let out for a holiday during the Fort Worth Stock Show, and after each local rodeo there was always a dance to attend. Now with kiddos of my own, those rural roots are not nearly are prevalent in Arlington, Texas. However, the little bit of cowgirl in me (a stress a little bit), still desires to share my upbringing as well as what a rodeo is all about.

Lucky for me, the Mesquite Rodeo is a great local option for bringing out the cowboy in all of us. Every Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM until August, everyone is invited to put on their hat, gather up their herd and mosey on down to air-conditioned Mesquite Arena to experience the rodeo! The PRCA-sanctioned events include the best of championship rodeo: bull riding, saddle bronc and bareback riding, cowgirl barrel racing, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping. In addition to the rodeo competition, pageantry, comedy and kid-friendly activities such as mutton bustin’ and calf scrambles.

On the schedule for 2012 are a number of specialty acts that add even more entertainment and excitement to the extreme sport of rodeo including:

  • A new illusion act seems to make a horse appear out of thin air is something that has to be seen to believe.
  • The Cowgirl Chicks amaze with their entertaining trick riding, while Kenny Petet shows the crowd the fast world of chuck wagon racing.
  • Guy McLean, a self-taught Australian horseman, entertains with stunts performed with his four Australian-bred horses.
  • Whiplash, the cowboy monkey, is one of the funniest events for kids at the rodeo. Lynn Payne, a wild animal wrangler, makes the crowd go wild with the crack of his whip.

So put on those dusty boots and come on down to the Mesquite Rodeo!
