Bright and Shiny Things at the Cannes Film Festival

bright lights on the red carpet

Some of you may have wondered how I found myself in the French Riviera walking the red carpet. I have asked myself that same question many times! I've been lucky enough to participate on HP's very cool "IAB" board (Influencer Advisory Board). In addition to getting to meet some very cool people from all over the world who do very cool work in their lives, we all get to hit a red carpet premier at the Cannes Film Festival.

HP is a sponsor and hosts an HP Lounge at the famous Hotel Majestic. The lounge shows off all of their amazing new products and it happens to be located in the heart of the action. If you wait in the lobby long enough you are sure to see celebrities.

I've got a slideshow that hits some of our highlights in Cannes. My handsome husband has used up too much vacation time this year so Allison (from PetitElefant.com) and I decided we'd hit Europe like a couple of crazy kids on Spring Break after Cannes! More posts to come on that front -- in the meantime, some of those shenanigans have been captured on Instagram with the hashtag #parisroadtrip. Enough of that! Here's a little more about Cannes!

What's New With HP: The Bright and Shiny Things

It wasn't all just fancy dresses and red carpets. We actually had meetings and talked about product development and the design principles that are guiding the company now. Needless to say, I'm impressed (and this comes form a previously non PC girl)! Here's a peek at some of the products we got to check out in Cannes:

HP Pavilion TouchSmart

Have you ever touched your computer screen by accident thinking it should act like a tablet or your smart phone? I've done it . . . several times. Ultimately it only makes sense that this is the direction that desktops should go. We've got one of these in our home right now. I've set it up specifically as our family computer and the kids love it. I just did a post on setting the safety settings for your family computer and I'll be doing another post about jumping between Macs and PC's. I've been an Apple fan girl for a long time, and I'm surprised at how much I've shifted in the last 2 years.

HP Rove

The concept behind this computer is that it's a desktop and a gigantic tablet all in one. Imagine running a board game on this tablet, or gathering around the coffee table to collaborate around photos or an interactive app. I think this product is a cool example of how we can make our technology more social and interactive.

HP Slate Book

I think this thing is genius. It's a laptop and a tablet all in one. At first I was nervous to snap the screen off of this, but it was easy and intuitively clipped back on.

HP Slate 7

This is HP's mini tablet. They've brought the price point on these down to approximately $169 and it runs on the Android platform. I love the price point and I think the design is fabulous. There's a little learning curve with Android but it wasn't bad on a tablet. My learning curve from iPhone to Android phone gave me complete anxiety and the shakes. Not so with this tablet. Of course it's got Beats Audio which is always wonderful!

Bottom Line

I think HP is coming out with completely creative products and that they are taken great chances on really mixing things up while other companies are releasing expensive, lackluster updates to their products and platforms. It's been fun to have been associated with HP over the past few years and to see products evolve. I especially love the creativity they are bringing to their desktop computers.

If I were you . . . I might want to win a few for myself! Read on!
