Fort Worth Stockyards and Cattle Baron Mansions

We’ve been enjoying local tourist spots in the Dallas area.

And with my love of South Fork Ranch, I knew a Fort Worth visit was in our future.

For close to nothing, we had a great time visiting Fort Worth. I’d recommend watching one of two daily cattle drives and taking advantage of a picture opportunity on top of a real longhorn in the Stockyards.

Once the cattle drive is over, walk a few steps and watch a staged shoot out and then check out the view of a cattlepen maze (as seen on CBS’ the Amazing Race 5). Or better yet, go thru the cattlepen maze.

Before leaving the Stockyards, make sure to  pay a small fee to enter Billy Bob’s to see the World’s Largest Belt Buckle and view the various famous cemented handprints of celebrities who have performed in that venue. My amused hubby took a picture of me next to Blake Shelton’s handprints. I love him!

After grabbing lunch, visit at least one of two historical cattle baron mansions in the area. For a small fee, you’ll get a guided tour and learn about Fort Worth’s rich history. This is NOT to be missed! This impressive tour that captivated the attention of our two kids.
