HISTORY OF MIDWAY:

In 1866, there were two settlements surrounding where Midway is now; the Upper Setttlement, and the Lower Settlement. Because of hostilities with the Native Americans, Brigham Young instructed the settlers to build forts for protection. The two small settlements decided to build a ford “mid way” between the two settlements, thus beginning the town of Midway that we know and love today. In the 1860s and 1870s, a large number of Swiss families settled there. Some of the descendants of the original Swiss settlers still live in Midway today. Midway was incorporated as a city on June 1st 1891.
