Hike Tubbs Hill

This easy 2.2-mile loop along the lake is perfect for families. We spotted deer and baby fawns, enjoyed sandy beaches, and even tried cliff-jumping (safe and fun for older kids and teens!). It’s a short but memorable hike right in town during our Coeur d’Alene family trip.
Relax at McEuen Park
Located next to Tubbs Hill, this lively park is full of energy. Each evening, we found live music, families playing, and kids splashing in the water features. With playgrounds, a splash pad, and access to Tubbs Hill, it’s a family hub in the city.
Stroll Coeur d’Alene Parkway State Park

This paved 5.7-mile trail is ideal for families who want a smooth, easy outing. A highlight of our Coeur d’Alene family trip was biking, walking, or enjoying a lakeside picnic at Higgens Point. It’s a great option for all ages and fitness levels.
Take in the Views at Mineral Ridge Trail

For families who love a moderate challenge, this 3.3-mile backcountry hike rewards you with sweeping views over Beauty Bay. It’s a fun half-day hike with just enough elevation to make the summit feel rewarding.
Fly High with Timberline Adventures
Ready for thrills? Timberline Adventures offers ziplines, sky bridges, and even a suspended “treehouse” adventure. It’s best for older kids, teens, and adults looking for an adrenaline rush above the treetops.
Visit Silverwood Theme Park & Boulder Beach Water Park
If you’ve got time, Silverwood (45 minutes north in Athol) is the Northwest’s largest theme park. A trip to Coeur d’Alene should definitely include this. With rollercoasters, water rides, and family attractions, it’s a full-day destination. We missed it this trip, but it’s definitely on the list for next time.
Explore the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes
This 73-mile paved rail-trail offers incredible wildlife viewing, from eagles to moose, while winding through lakes, rivers, and forests. A Coeur d’Alene family trip would be incomplete without exploring a section of this trail. You can bike short sections or go for the long haul depending on your family’s stamina.
Play on the Lake

From kayaking and paddleboarding to boating and fishing off the docks, Lake Coeur d’Alene is the heartbeat of the city. Our family loved paddleboarding, kayaking, and simply soaking in sunset views on the water.
