Yes, we had donkeys…two miniature donkeys named Donkey and Harry. I loved them, and I miss them (but I’d be lying if I said I’d thought I would miss them when it was 18 degrees outside and I was hauling hot water from the house to the barn so they could have something to drink because all of the water and pipes had frozen in the barn). I even competed with them in a donkey show.

I am excited about this event because it’s a chance to meet Cisco and Poncho, the resident donkeys at Heritage Farmstead Museum. Because we live in the suburbs now, my kids won’t have the experience of being raised with donkeys and horses and other critters…but these animals are very much a part of ME, and I want the kids to be able to enjoy these amazing animals, too (even if they aren’t in our own backyard).
The Donkey Daze event includes a story, an activity, and a wagon ride. The cost is $10 for two people, and an additional $3 per extra child. It runs from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM (maybe this means it will wear my kids out and they’ll both nap for me that afternoon…a girl can dream, right?).
You must register for this event, and registration closes on September 12th at 2:00 PM.
I know how donkeys are, and I’m sure Cisco and Poncho would love to have you there.
