To anyone unfamiliar with the Photo Pass it is simply a card that cast members hand you after they take your picture. Usually this is when you are getting a picture with a character or when you may be standing in front of Cinderella’s castle. Those photo passes are FREE and you can add as many pictures as you want to them. Just hand your card to a cast member each time you pose for a picture (the cast member holding the camera with Photo Pass on their vest, not just a random cast member). You take the pass home, go to the Photo Pass website, put in a code, and all the pictures attached to that Photo Pass show up. It’s at that point you decide what pictures you want to buy.
The Photo Pass + is the newest, and not quite the most popular addition to the Photo Pass game. I decided to try it out on a recent trip to Disney World. It was a little hard to fork over almost $200 for a card, but in the end, it was totally worth the money.
The difference with the Photo Pass + is that you have 100% control over any picture that is taken and added to your card. This means copyright anything. They are your pictures. You get the digital downloads, you get the boarders, you get it all.
How it is worth the money is simple. When you get off a ride that takes your picture (Space Mountain, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Expedition Everest, and Dinosaur) you hand them your card and they add your picture to it. You just give them the number that was on the tv scree your picture was on. Any other Photo Pass can not be used this way. And if you haveto have that picture of Mom because she looks as if she is about to vomit on the ride, and you can’t stop laughing at the look on her face, it’ll cost you $14.95 for that memory.
Now if you eat at a character meal or dinner show that takes your picture (1900 Park Fare, Ohana, Spirit of Aloha, Chef Mickey’s, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Tusker House, Hoop Dee Doo Revue, Princess Story Book Dining) the package for the photo is generally $25.95, if it does not come with your meal. (This also this works with theBibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and The Pirates League.) With the Photo Pass +, you flash them your card, and the photo package is handed to you. No charge. I love this because I enjoy the dinner shows. character meals, and the Pirate League. They will take 3-4 different pictures (sometimes more) and you can add all of them to your card. They give you a number, and when you get home, type the number into your account, and they are there. Or, take the numbers to any Photo Pass location and they will do the work for you.
Now the magic happens when you get home. You will go to the Disney Photo Pass website and sign in to your account. If you don’t have one, it only takes a few seconds to get one started. You type in the number on the back of your card, the one you were flashing at everyone. At that point you will see all your pictures. Any in the park, with characters, on the rides, and at the dinner shows they will all be there, if you added them (now with the dining, if you did not have Disney cast members add them, you have to find the number to the picture package and add it your self). From here the fun is up to you. You are given tons of options on boarders. You can really spice up any or all pictures. You can crop them, or do whatever you want to with them.
After you have messed with your pictures, you have cropped them, you have added boarders, and/or you have made them black and white, you are ready to have them sent to you. You will order a Photo CD (free). When you purchase a Photo Pass +, you are given a CD that contains 400 stock photos. These are of the characters and the parks. Also, you are given a voucher for a free Photo CD that you can add all your pictures to. Add them, and within a few weeks, you’ll have all your pictures. The shipping is free which is awesome, and again, you have all copyright rights to your pictures. So, you can print them off anywhere. They are yours. FOREVER!!!!
If you choose to use the Photo Pass website to make a mug or mouse pad, or anything thing else they offer, you do have to pay for that. That is not free, but they run specials all the time. Also, please note that your pictures will only be available for a short time. Once your time frame is up, if you did not order your cd, your pictures are gone. The pictures will stay on your card for 30 days after the photo was taken, and they will stay online for 30 days after they were added to your account.
To me, being a person who loves pictures, I think the Photo Pass + is totally worth the money. If you purchase before your trip, you can save some money. It’s only $169.95. If you do not plan on taking advantage of dinner shows, character meals, or the Princess/Pirate dress up fun, I would not spend the money. However, if you are a crazy picture lady (or sir), and you knock people over to get to the picture people, then it is totally worth every cent.
