Cars Land Opening Party and the Food - Disneyland Just Got Happier

What's new at the Disneyland Resort? Here's a first look at Cars Land in California Adventure Park from a foodie's perspective!

“Never trust a piece of food with words on it!” warned Jeff, our Disney Mad T Party Cast Member and dancing buddy extraordinare.

What? Put down the tempting Eat Me crispy treat? No way.

My inner foodie loves exploring new tastes, creative flavor combinations and clever ways food can build on a party theme. So who wins the Piston Cup for creating a magical food experience? The Chefs and Imagineers at Disneyland Resort get the checkered flag!

Welcome to Cars Land Kids

Last week, I was lucky enough to catch a sneak preview of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle as Disney California Adventure Park celebrated its Grand Re-Opening.

Do you have a favorite Disney tradition? Head for a big ride to start your day? I always start with the food! When you only have three meals a day, better make the most of them!

First, you can count on finding any type of food to make your family happy. California Adventure Park has fine dining to fast casual so even your meals will prove true the new motto, “Just Got Happier!”

From the first steps off the airplane, I heard about the food. Our Disney Express cast member, Juan, filled me in on Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café, home to the first in-park Starbucks. Not to miss are the new Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountainand Chocolate Shop and the New York Strip at Flo’s V8 in Cars Land. Even Downtown Disney will welcome Earl of Sandwich to its neighborhood later this fall.

As you enter California Adventure Park, Buena Vista Street transports you back in time to Los Angeles, circa 1920-30, the way Walt Disney may have seen it when he first came to California. I loved walking in, passing the Red Car Trolley and finding Mortimer’s Market with fruit and beverages to start our day.

The Carthay Circle Restaurant , home to Executive Chef, Andrew Sutton, is an upscale, sit-down restaurant with a menu as exquisite as the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture of the Carthay Circle Theatre. Red Thai curry noodles or Tillamook Cheddar-topped Angus burgers will tempt you to stop for lunch.

Take Route 66 into Cars Land and you’ll stop...right there and take it all in. The Ornament Valley mountain range soars into the blue sky and before you is Radiator Springs. Fillmore’s Taste-In, Cozy Cone Motel and Flo’s V8 Café – we were revved up to sample the fare.

What will you find at the Cozy Cone Motel? Cones, of course! You have five teepees of goodness surrounding you. Where to start? The Chili “Cone” Queso, a cone of dill pickle popcorn or a churro-filled cone with cinnamon-chocolate sauce? Thirsty yet? Ramone’s Pear of Dice Soda is made with Sprite, mojito syrup and dessert pear flavors.

Do you see how you can stay for a week and still not try everything?

We made a pit stop at Flo’s V8 Café for some citrus turkey sandwiches and salads. This Mama loves the healthy options! Can you say an individual-sized cheddar and apple pie is still healthy?

We found even more healthy dining options at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and the Paradise Garden Grill. Thank you, Disney, for healthy choices!

Healthy or not, we also had a hand-dipped corn dog and ogled at the hand-decorated, dipped apples at Trolley Treats.

Since food comes from kitchens, I had to peruse the Mickey-inspired kitchenware at Julius Katz & Sons. Measuring cups, spoons, aprons, hot pads, cutting boards, cookie jars galore!

After nightfall, we found room for treats of all kinds at the Mad T Party down the Rabbit Hole, inspired by Alice in Wonderland Tim Burton-style. Live band music from Alice and the Mad Hatter kept us dancing as the party continued.

After five years in the making, Cars Land is worth the wait. The party, and all the delicious food options, will be the “happy-ning” place for years to come.
