Every fall, I dress the kids up in their Fall finery and take them to the Dallas Arboretum, where I make them sit on pumpkins and smile so I can take pictures. I brave the crowds – and sometimes inclement weather – because I just do not think there is a better place in Dallas to get cute pumpkin pictures with your kids.
This year, the Dallas Arboretum has decorated for Fall with over 50,000 pumpkins. 50,000! That is a lot of pumpkins.
We visit the Arboretum every year around this time, and every time we leave saying, “Wow, it was even more amazing this year!”
As luck would have it, the kids were not too keen on being photographed. Jack even told me, on the way over, that “Taking pictures is boring!” Between Jack not cooperating and Claire refusing to sit still for just.one.second. – I never was able to get a cute picture of the two of them together (which is unfortunate, because I spent a lot of time coordinating their outfits!).
So yes, taking pictures was indeed boring for the kids. But, something that was not boring? The straw maze!

Once you’ve seen all the pumpkins, run through the straw maze, and visited the playhouses made of gourds, you can always check out the Chihuly exhibits (which are there until November 5th).
I visit (and write about!) the Arboretum often, but truly…if you visit just one time, make it during the month of October.
You can find hours, ticket prices, garden maps and dining information at their website.
