New Year’s Resolutions?

I’m not really a resolution kind of girl.

I used to make lists but then a few months in, I would forget about them.  A couple of years ago, I started declaring just one word for the year.  I love it.  I love being in the middle of a year and remembering that one word.  I love looking back at the end of the year and seeing just how much that word defined and brought clarity to so many things.

I’m the praying type so as 2011 came to a close, I began asking God what the one word for 2012 would be.  It felt like a blank canvas before me but soon enough it came…risk.  I am not, I repeat NOT, a natural risk taker, so it will be interesting to see what exactly will come my way and the choices I will have to face.  I love the anticipation.

My family celebrated the first day of 2012 by getting our creativity on.  A 36X48 blank canvas and several tubes of paint, and we painted our word (or words) that came to mind for 2012.  This will hang in our house and remind us of what God is doing and the lovely things to come.

How do you ring in the New Year?  Do you write resolutions or declareone wordfor the year?

Maybe our biggest challenge this January is getting those New Year's Resolutions down on paper where you can measure them and really do something about bringing them to pass.
