Light up your holiday with Zoolights at the Oregon Zoo! ZooLights gates are open from 5-8 p.m. and guests may stay on the grounds until 9 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday ZooLights gates stay open until 8:30 p.m. and you may stay on the grounds until 9:30 p.m. This annual event ends Sunday, Jan. 5 (closed on December 24-25).
New This Year
New to ZooLights is the tunnels of light near the Africa Rainforest and even more lights than the year before. Also note, the train is not running this year due to improvements (laying new tracks down), but that doesn’t seem to damper anyone’s spirits. In fact, many are saying they are staying warmer and feeling “closer to the action” walking around instead.
Most of the animals will be asleep once the lights turn on, so if your child(ren) really want to see animals at the zoo, I suggest you go early and stay late. Keep in mind there is no reentry into the park past 4 p.m. The Cascade Grill, Black Rhino, AfriCafe and many more will be open through the extended hours to sell popcorn, hot chocolate and more.
Parking is $4/vehicle, and tends to fill quickly. If possible, we recommend you ride MAX to the zoo (which gives you a bonus $1.50 discount on your admission, too). Admission is free to all Oregon Zoo members (not a member? Check here for more information about it). For more information about hours, prices, etc, please visit their ZooLights page.
This is Portland, after all. Coats, hats, mittens and smiles are an absolute must to brave the cold (and possible rain) with. Last year we brought hand warmers with us – it made all the difference in the world! Well, that and the hot chocolate….Happy holidays!
