Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure is now open through January 19, 2015 at the Eiteljorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis. Model trains carry with them a whimsical Christmas spirit and this exhibit captures all that and adds the adventure of traveling through the West with beautiful recreations of national treasures. The sounds and sights of this exhibit are absolutely enchanting. My kids love to follow around the different trains and enjoy the excitement and fun of the models trains and the intricately detailed surroundings.
Seven trains zoom throughout the different attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Rushmore, and the Grand Canyon but also through our local sites like the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Lucas Oil Stadium and Monument Circle. My kids love waiting for Old Faithful to go off and went on a scavenger hunt in the exhibit. You can grab a scavenger hunt, “Find it!” guide at the entrance of the exhibit.
One of my favorite spots is the model of Aspen, CO with a miniature, operating ski lift. This year, we found the One Room Schoolhouse which was fun since my son visited the actual One Room Schoolhouse this year for a field trip with his class. Of course, I adore the downtown Indianapolis and the miniature Circle of Lights.
After you see Jingle Rails, your kids will love the lower level Western Family Experience. My kids get lost playing in the stagecoach, building a sod house wall, and dressing up as a cowboy and climbing on a real saddle. I love that there is so much for all of my kids to do as they have different interests, that there are restrooms close and I can let them wander and play without losing them.
December seems to fly by so I love that Jingle Rails is open through January 19, 2015. You will have plenty of time to bring your family even if December is too hectic. Admission to Jingle Rails is included with general admission to the Eiteljorg Musuem. Members are free; Adults $12; Youth 5-17 $6 and kids 4 and under are free. Parking is also free for Eiteljorg visitors.
