Once you get into it, you can knit a hat in just a few tv shows. The best part is that you don’t have to count stitches.

I’m not going to explain how to use your loom, the manufacture makes an easy to understand instruction booklet with it, but I’m going to show you a few ways that you can embellish your hats after you finish making them on your loom. For those not into knitting, with or without a loom, you could also buy a ready-made hat and embellish it yourself!

Clip on a Hair Flower

This is one of the easiest ideas. You can make a flower clip yourself or buy one. A couple of ways to make flowers are to Hot Glue a Rolled Flower, and to Hand Stitch a Fabric Flower. Both of these would need a clip added to them like we did in the Turkey Hair Clip.

Another way to make a flower clip is to take a silk flower and pull it apart and hot glue the petals to a piece of felt and use a button or gem as the center. Get creative, or search the web for other good flower-making techniques. There are a ton of them!

Make a Pom Pom

Pom Poms are really easy to make, and you usually have a little yarn left over to make one.

  1. Wrap your extra yarn around a piece of cardboard that is roughly the diameter you want your pom pom to be. (Mine came from an old cereal box.)

2.Slide it off, and tie another piece of the same colored yarn around the center of your loops.

3.Cut each side of loops at the very top of the loop.

  1. Fluff it out.

Now stitch it to your hat with the same yarn.

Stitch Felt Shapes On It

I stitched some coal-shaped eyes and a carrot-shaped nose to a white hat to make my son look like Frosty! This is best done with embroidery floss, and make sure to do it loosely so that your hat can still stretch a bit. Be creative with this, use simple shapes or put a few shapes together for something fun. My next one might be a dinosaur. Or maybe just dinosaur spikes.

If you created any cute or cool hats I would love to see them! Leave me a link in the comments. Have fun creating!
