I swear it was just Memorial Day! Today is a fun round-up of my entertaining ideas for the 4th Of July. Since I don’t bake, I’m always looking for new ways to make desserts and treats to share. I’m sure this idea has been done to death, but I just discovered it and whipped up a fun twist on shortcakes.
I purchased a Sara Lee pound cake, sliced it up and cut out rounds with a cookie cutter. Then I layered cherry and blueberry pie filling and topped it off with whipped cream. The flag isn’t just for pretty, it’s skewering the layers together so when your guests cut into it, it won’t topple over.

If you are looking for more sweet inspiration, head over and check out the Sprinkles Will Fly! blog party, where myself and 23 fabulous food bloggers were inspired by wrappers sent by local cupcake wrapper diva Bella Cupcake Couture to celebrate the holiday in style. We each created cupcakes to coordinate with our wrappers. There are so many great cupcake recipes and easy styling tips. Mine was inspired for a nautical look with Starfish And Stripes.
And I didn’t stop there…my cupcakes inspired an entire tablescape! Take a peek at my nautical take on the 4th Of July. I wanted to be able to use this tablescape all summer long without being committed by using flags. If you would like to do the same, a quick trip down to Packaging Specialties will score you the striped boxes, chevron and cello bags, red plates and soup containers. The best thing about 4th Of July ideas? If you don’t have time to do them now, save them for Memorial Day!
Wishing you and your family a safe and wonderful 4th Of July.
