If you live in the Bay Area, be thankful for the immense amount of activities we have available to us during the summer time! We are so lucky that there are incredible theme parks, zoos, museums, parks, life-changing summer camp programs, and more… all the while, we get to enjoy wonderful weather, and beautiful scenery. I’m not a Bay Area native, but I’ll be the first to admit that we’ve got it good for raising kids!

CA Great America

One of our very favorite things to do once the season rolls around is exploring California’s Great America! Last year was the first year we had season passes (thanks to my MIL!), and the kids absolutely loved it. Not only is it a big theme park in our backyard in Santa Clara, but they have a wonderful park inside for smaller children called KidZville, and a Water Park – Boomerang Bay – all for one price! There hours vary, but they open full time during Memorial Day Weekend. See the hours here. And if you get just one Gold Pass in your family, parking is free for the whole season!

Happy Hollow

We also love going to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo. It’s a really cute mini theme park (with a couple of rollercoasters, rides, etc. for the kids), with a huge play structure, and lot of animals to see, all in one place! Happy Hollow is in San Jose, and it’s open year round, and season passes are just $35 per person (or $30 if you buy 4 or more at a time) for the whole year! We love to spend the day here during the summer so my big kid (who’s normally in school) can enjoy it too!

Rinconada Pool

Another great, hidden gem in the Bay Area is the Rinconada Pool, located in Palo Alto. We discovered this pool on a very hot day last year, and the kids both LOVED it! There is also a really neat park next door, and the museum called the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo.

Galileo Summer Camps

If you’re looking for a summer camp to send your children in grades Pre-K through 8th grade, where they can not only experience the joys of summer, but continue to exercise their brains through art, science and other inspiring activities… you should look no further than Galileo. One of the best summer camp programs in the country is based right here in our backyard! For more information, see: Galileo Summer Camps*Sponsored link. And if you register before May 31st, use the code: 2013INNOVATE for $25 off.
