There are certain things you just don’t expect to do in Florida during the holidays, but alas, our state is full of surprises. Here are 3 Florida holiday activities you thought you’d never do here:
1. Visit a Christmas tree farm
Sure, we’ve got tree lots in Florida, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a local whose ever visited an actual Christmas tree farm and cut down their own tree. But if you drive 30 miles outside Orlando to Eustis, Florida, you’ll find Santa’s Christmas Tree Forest, where you can not only chop down a tree, you can also zip line, hop on a hay ride and visit farm animals (hey, this is Florida). I don’t know how the owners do it, but longtime fans say the trees look great every year. Where else can you don flip flops and board shorts to find your family’s perfect Christmas tree? Closed Mondays.
2. Go ice skating
Ice skating in Florida is hard to do. The warm weather just doesn’t allow for many ice rinks. Luckily Winter Park’s Central Park West lawn transforms into Winter in the Park every year. The tented ice rink uses real ice, and the many nearby restaurants make it a cinch to turn the outing into a family play date. Open daily through January 6th.
3. Watch snow fall
Celebration is the idyllic town near Disney with a cute little main street lined with ice cream shops, restaurants and boutiques. Every year during the holidays, the Celebration Town Center hosts a nightly celebration that includes carolers, train rides, horse-drawn carriages and “snowfall” four times each night starting at 6 p.m. Open daily through Jan. 3rd.
