When Erica, Today’s Mama Local Perspectives Blog Editor, wrote me an email two weeks and asked if I was available to attend the RxHibition Lenscrafter’s event and that Joan Rivers would be there, I immediately said “Yes’! I mean that was a no-brainer. Even though I live in NYC, I don’t see a lot of celebrities. And I have always watched Joan Rivers on television. She is hilarious. It’s always fun to see celebrities up close and personal and to see that they are “real” people too.
This event took place two weeks ago, April 27th, to be exact, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. I did not really know what was going to happen that evening – if Joan would be performing or not. I wanted to sit in the front row seat, just in case, but this was not a theater or a comedy venue, but a social event. There were only few scattered sofas here and there. Anyway, I wanted to play it safe and be there early. I was there at 6:15 PM.
The event took place in Chelsea and the woman who showed me around that evening, was named Chelsea. Chelsea in Chelsea. What a fitting name! The purpose of the event was to introduce a new line of prescription sunglasses Lenscrafters just came out with. I understand how “un-stylish” prescription sunglasses are because I have a pair or two! Lenscrafters designed a few sunglasses that people, like me, can wear “stylish” sunglasses.
I walked out of the elevator and Lenscrafter’s had the space all decked out and decorated. It looked like a Lenscrafter’s showroom only with a bar, comfy sofas, and a gorgeous view of the Hudson and New Jersey. Here are some of the pictures:
After getting a beverage from the bar, Chelsea was kind enough to show me around each sunglass showcase and tried on the different sunglasses. Chelsea also explained the before and after shots of people modeling the Lencrafter’s sunglasses. The before pictures showed the models squinting in the sun with their regular glasses. The after pictures showed the models smiling and being able to play sports with their prescription sunglasses.

After looking at each before and after picture, I took a quiz to see my sunglass style. There were four different sunglass style a person can be: Style Maven, The Adventurer, The Connoisseur, and The Classic, The quiz is quite accurate. I was pleasantly surprised.
My sunglass style is “Style Maven” and I was given a pair Tory Burch sunglasses as a gift. I always thought my style was “Classic”. I tried on all of the sunglasses and the “Style Maven” glasses looked the best on me than the others. All of the other sunglasses I tried on looked very big and I looked like I had bug eyes.
After I had my sunglass fitting, I hung around and mingled with other people. The weather was beautiful that evening and I hung around in the terrace to take in the glorious views of the city. Before 7 pm, Joan Rivers inconspicuously appeared. No announcements. Nothing. I just happen to catch a glimpse of her blonde hair as she tried on the sunglasses. She, of course, was busy being interviewed and photographed. I am not one to bother famous people for an autograph or a picture so I kept a distance and took pictures of her.
All in all, it was a lovely evening and I enjoyed myself. I mingled and met people in the publishing world, drank some Prosecco, ate hors d’ oeuvres, and took lots of pictures. Perfect New York City evening. Thank you Erica and Chelsea!
