We attended this FREE event last year and had such a great time, we are planning to go again this year. The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is turned into an 1840’s encampment with FREE activities for all. Be sure to pick up a map with landmarks along the trail taken by the Mormon Battalion. Each landmark represents a station in the Historic Park with crafts and activities to do. When completed, get a stamp on that landmark and see how many you can complete!
These are some of my our favorite booths from last year.
Have kids do laundry...the old-fashioned way!
Bake your own biscuit, enjoy with homemade butter!
Every hour kids can march in a parade around the square like the Battalion!
Make adobe bricks
Some other activities are quilting, rope making, and songs and stories told throughout the day. My kids had a blast last year and we didn’t even make it through everything, there was so much to do. Don’t miss that fun, educational, hands-on, family event. Did I mention it is FREE?! You can’t beat that! The event is Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm. While you are there, stop by the Old Town House of Jerky & Root Beer for some refreshment. And if you haven’t been to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site, be sure to visit there soon as well.
