Suffering from post-holiday letdown? Can’t afford the time or money it takes to go skiing (never mind that there isn’t any snow)? Then gather up some old-fashioned winter spirit and a few friends and go ice skating!
Yes, there’s ice skating outdoors in the bright California sunshine at Walnut Creek on Ice in Civic Park. Rates vary from $11-$15/person with discounts for bigger groups and multi-use cards. The rink will be open until January 22, 2012 with a special evening gala with dinner, wine and entertainment on Saturday, January 14th.
If you plan on going: The ice rink opens at noon on most days, with 11am openings on Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s.
Do not park in the Civic Park parking lot– there are big signs telling you not to, and parking at nearby garages on Locust Street or Broadway are suggested.
As a bonus, you can also choose to donate $1 of your ticket price to a local school or organization– great idea for groups.
Dress warmly– it may be California, but the ice is still, uh, frozen.
