Golden Globes 2012: Why to Watch
Awards season is fun in the midst of winter doldrums, and the Golden Globes Awards may be my favorite show. For some reason, I'm especially looking forward to this year's show. Well, there are four reasons, really.
1. Ricky Gervais.
He's funny, irreverent, and based on his interviews so far, he's going for the zingers. That means he'll pick on the crowd and will say things about the celebs that may run past funny and go straight into uncomfortable territory (meaning, we at home will laugh and the celebs will be outraged). It'll be great.
2. Ryan Gosling
I think every woman in America is in love with this man, and the funny "Hey Girl..." memes online are keeping the crush fires stoked. Gosling is nominated for two categories, and is up against George Clooney and Brat Pitt for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama. Is there a new Best Actor hottie in town?
This Hey Girl is from Happy Zombie.
3. Red Carpet Style
I love a top-notch red carpet. The Globes are usually a nice mix of color, new style and fun flair, whereas the Oscars aren't usually as playful. Last year's Globes red carpet was practically flooded with rain, which didn't bode well for fancy hair, long dresses and anything with starch or feathers.
Wouldn't this jewel blue Elie Saab dress look ethereal crossing the stage? The Telegraph recommends it for Emma Stone.

4. Acceptance speech surprises
As mentioned earlier, the attendees tend to imbibe while awaiting their category. Sometimes speeches are slurred or punctuated with a little more random honesty than their little cheat cards indicate. Jack Nicholson once mooned the audience. Christine Lahti had to be tracked down in the ladies room to accept her statue. What will happen this year?
Tune in Sunday night on NBC.
