The closest I’ve ever come to seeing an opera is when Julia Roberts dons her red dress in Pretty Woman and attends La Traviata (which I learned later is about a prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy man.) I’ve always wanted to attend, but I’ll be honest, the whole idea just seemed to be scary – especially if I can’t understand it or even worse, hate it while wearing dress clothes to boot. However, Aida, one of the legendary operas, takes the stage Friday and you (and the rest of Dallas) are invited to attend opening night for a free outdoor “plazacast” at the NEW Margot & Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
Bring your picnic basket, claim your space on the lawn and enjoy the party that is FIRST NIGHT for a live broadcast of AIDA. Share in the drama as it unfolds onstage and dress to impress in your best flip-flops and t-shirts. Performance begins at 7:30 but come early to enjoy the pre-party viewing on the red carpet. Who knows, maybe you’ll be on the big screen!
Wondering how you’ll understand the words? They’ve made it very easy with a study guide!
