Fall is a perfect time for family hikes! With school already in session, you don’t always have a lot of time to drive into the mountains. Located just five miles from downtown Salt Lake City, Red Butte Gardens is a perfect choice for a family night hike.
Red Butte Gardens is more than just taking a garden stroll. Did you know that they have hiking trails off the main path that you can hike on? Pack a picnic dinner, and spend an afternoon or a family night at Red Butte Gardens.
Here are some fun family night hikes and activities you can do at Red Butte Gardens:
At the visitors center, check out a Family Backpack. Available May through September, they are free with Garden Admission, and are recommended for children ages 4-12. Just ask at the admission desk to check one out.
- The Aquatic Adventures Backpack is perfect for children 8-12. Explore the underwater world in the Garden with water pH and temperature sampling, water insect identification, and other scientific activities for kids that love the water! Water shoes are encouraged for this adventure.
- The Budding Naturalist Backpack is perfect for children ages 4-8. Discover the world of phenology by tracking the changes of plants and animals through the seasons. A compass and clues will get you through the Garden on a grand adventure to study plants, seeds, and flowers. You’ll spend time at the creek planting a seed to take home!
