For some crazy reason, I accompanied a friend of mine out to Wal-Mart for Black Friday shopping (actually pre-Black Friday as the sale she was after started at 10:00 Thursday night). She told me what she was after and said it would be best if we split up. I was in charge of getting her 2, 20-piece Pyrex sets and Tupperware type storage things. She was going around the corner for some sheets. All was well, but crowded, and then it was time. People were going insane. I grabbed the Pyrex boxes and tried not to get hit in the face with elbows by the ladies next to me trying to save $10 on some Paula Dean cookware.
As I was searching for my friend, I threw the Tupperware in my basket. I found her coming down one of the isles and she looked a little frazzled. Apparently some lady pushed her down, sat on her, and then ripped her sheets out of her hands. I couldn’t believe that. In-sane!
When we left Wal-Mart, I met up with my husband and boys, so we could head out to Stonebriar Mall. We started at the Disney Store. They had a pretty good sale. Everything was an additional 20% off. We made it out of there with a family set of matching Christmas jammies, and I re-purchased something that I already have under the tree. It was $15 cheaper, so I figured I can take it back and get back the difference.
After that, we went to Macy’s. I stood in line for 45 minutes because of an awesome deal on a comforter set. $49.99 for a $200 comforter isn’t too shabby. Who cares if I was tired and cranky. I was saving money!
We decided to stop by Old Navy on the way home. I was looking for a red coat. I think we went to 5 different Old Navy’s and not one had the coat I wanted in the size I needed. How did no one have a large? XS, S, M, XXL… , but no L.
We then went home for some rest. It was about 3:00 am by the time we got home, and we set our alarms for 5:00 am, which we slept through and ended up getting out of bed at 7:00 am. First stop was Barnes & Noble. They had 50% off educational games and toys plus I had a “get an extra 30% off” coupon. I looked for a few v-reader books and some games for the Leap Pad. Great deals.
Then the last stop for the day was Costco. I waited outside for about an hour before they opened their doors. My husband and I plotted a little, and once they opened the doors, he headed toward the TVs, and I went after the vacuums. I got a Dyson $100 off!
My husband loaded up his cart with electronics, and then I went on the hunt for a coat… still no large! I ended up settling for a grey Calvin Klein coat. It wasn’t red, or on sale. I did, however; get another better deal on something else that I had already purchased. This time I saved $20. The Costco people were great about giving me the money back.
All in all it was a very productive day. We bought a lot for not that much money. Yes, it was crazy, but also an adrenaline rush. Next time I think I will find a baby sitter though. It was a little too much for my kids, I think. So, what’s the plan for next year? We will see.
