A horse rescue and therapeutic riding center, it benefits horses in need – and people, too.
Started in 2005 by owner Karen Bander, Throwaway Ponies is home to 62 horses (at one time I was taking care of nine horses on my property every day, and I can tell you…62 is A LOT of horses). These are unwanted horses – horses who were neglected, abused, injured…and abandoned.
At Throwaway Ponies, these horses get a second chance. Horses are rehabilitated and adopted out to loving homes. Some horses remain on the property, and some assist with therapy for local children and adults.
As most non-profit organizations do, Throwaway Ponies is supported by volunteers and always in need of donations to keep things running smoothly.

Back in the day, I taught therapeutic riding lessons, and I can speak firsthand to the benefits a little equine therapy can do for the human soul. If you’re looking for something to get involved with or some opportunities to help those in need (both animals and people), I hope you will take a look at Throwaway Ponies.
