Benefit Events for Throwaway Ponies Horse Rescue

Throwaway Ponies in Rockwall, Texas, is the kind of organization I like to support.
Image placeholder title

A horse rescue and therapeutic riding center, it benefits horses in need – and people, too.

Started in 2005 by owner Karen Bander, Throwaway Ponies is home to 62 horses (at one time I was taking care of nine horses on my property every day, and I can tell you…62 is A LOT of horses). These are unwanted horses – horses who were neglected, abused, injured…and abandoned.

At Throwaway Ponies, these horses get a second chance.  Horses are rehabilitated and adopted out to loving homes.  Some horses remain on the property, and some assist with therapy for local children and adults.

As most non-profit organizations do, Throwaway Ponies is supported by volunteers and always in need of donations to keep things running smoothly.

There are several benefit events coming up that you can get involved in if you’d like to help!

On March 27th, 2013, El Chico Cafe (503 1-30 in Rockwall) will donate 10% of sales between the hours of 5-10PM to Throwaway Ponies.  Go eat, and support a good cause!

On May 5th, golfers can participate in the 4th annual “Play for Hay” golf tournament at Buffalo Creek Golf Course.  Contact for more info or to sign up!

If you’d like to volunteer at the ranch, you can find out more here.

Back in the day, I taught therapeutic riding lessons, and I can speak firsthand to the benefits a little equine therapy can do for the human soul. If you’re looking for something to get involved with or some opportunities to help those in need (both animals and people), I hope you will take a look at Throwaway Ponies.
