A Love Song Mix A Day: Country Love Songs

Music is a huge part of our home - one of our daughter’s first words was “tunes” - so naturally our shared love of country music has grown over the years.

Since there are few ways better suited for saying “I love you” than through song, I thought I would invite a few friends to share their preferred collection of songs for celebrating L-O-V-E.

Day 5 Mix: Country Love Songs

My husband and I agree on just about everything but it’s safe to say that if we weren’t together his iTunes library wouldn’t include Chris Isaak, Coldplay, Michael Buble or Snow Patrol. Mine wouldn’t include any of the death-metal bands whose names are too colorful to mention on this site.

Music is a huge part of our home - one of our daughter’s first words was “tunes” - so naturally our shared love of country music has grown over the years.

I may roll my eyes when he plays Meatloaf, he may scratch his head when I play Kings of Leon, but everyone’s happy when Trace Adkins is singing through our speakers. So, in honor of Valentine’s Day here are my favorite country love songs:

Air That I Breathe, The Mavericks
The best love song of all time. You’re welcome.

Then, Brad Paisley
Love songs often wax poetic on new love. Let’s hear it for a song that suggests the best is still to come.

It Was, Chely Wright
This song hints at The Crazy that women can be capable of when in love. It’s a little manic, but I love it.

The Heart Won’t Lie, Reba McEntire & Vince Gill
Come, let’s take a trip back to 1993 and enjoy the video. Oh, sure, you’ll probably laugh at Reba’s hair, roll your eyes at the bad acting, but face it...this is a song that stops you in your tracks.

My Love Will Follow You, Dierks Bentley
A sweet and mellow version of an old favorite.

She Is, Hal Ketchum
Hal Ketchum’s Past the Point of Rescue was my very first country album. I was 12. She Is was released ten years later and Hal’s still in my top five list of artists I love.

Lost In This Moment, Big & Rich
I imagine that this song is the new Amazed - probably in heavy rotation at weddings and proms. There is a reason for that. Because it’s GREAT. High time Big & Rich used their superpowers for good...I’m looking at YOU Save A Horse, RIde a Cowboy.

I Know How The River Feels, Diamond Rio
For a love that makes all others seem...what’s another word for lame...let’s go with “flimsy”...in comparison.

Amazed, Lonestar
Yes, it’s on every list of great country love songs but since I can still remember what it felt like to dance with my husband to this at our wedding, it will always make the list of Songs That Make Erin Swoon.

Let Me Touch You For Awhile, Alison Krauss & Union Station
Alison Krauss has a gift and that gift is singing highly suggestive lyrics in a way that doesn’t make your feel like a dirty bird for loving it.

Nothing On But the Radio, Gary Allan
I love everything this man sings he’s twangy without tipping the scales all the way over to hillbilly. Most of his love songs are pretty high on the angst meter, but this one is fun...and, ahem, inspiring.

I’ll Take That As a Yes (The Hot Tub Song), Phil Vassar
Turn up your speakers for this one.
