If you’ve got a pee-wee-Picasso or a mini-Monet on your hands, or even if your kiddo just loves making things out of random objects like toilet paper rolls and cotton balls, I have found the perfect place for you. This past weekend I went to a unique birthday party at a drop-in art studio for kids called Art Soup. I have been eying this place for months as it is on the way to my kids’ school and I had heard from various moms that it was a blast. Now I know just how awesome it is.

My kids absolutely LOVE doing arts and crafts, but I am simply not the artsy/crafty type of mom. I go to Michael’s and stare blankly at the foam crafts and paints, wondering what the heck to do with it all. Art Soup is the answer to my prayers.

Art Soup was started by a husband/wife team, who saw a need for this type of creative outlet after having their first daughter. The miniature art studio provides a hands-on creative experience for ages 2-12. They use all recycled materials and have a wide variety of craft activities.

The birthday party I attended there was organized, creative chaos, handled perfectly and completely by the staff. In fact, one of the biggest selling points to me about this place is the staff. Not only was the party sufficiently staffed with enough people to manage all the kids, but also they were great with the kids and very knowledgeable about the crafts. I could actually sit back and chat with the other parents while my kids were painting, gluing and having a blast.

They have a variety of themes for birthdays, or you can come up with your own. Either way, it will be a unique experience for everyone. Best of all, they provide a turnkey operation so there is little to no stress, prep or clean-up for the parents. And the biggest selling point to me was that instead of goody bags filled with annoying party favors, the guest-gift was a coupon to come back another day ($10.00 value), plus the kids get to leave with their art projects.
