My family spent Sunday afternoon at the Frisco Rough Riders game at Dr. Pepper park. It was the perfect day to go: Sunny but with a nice breeze to keep us cool. It was the first game for my kids, and we had great seats on Row 2 behind third base. We were so close that even my three-year-olds could follow the ball. A good time was had by all.
What makes this such a great family outing? Well, baseball is easy to follow close up, and this is a much less expensive way to introduce your kids to baseball than trying to get Rangers tickets. There are lots of things to watch between innings, such as dancers, karaoke, t-shirt tosses into the crowd, the mascots: Deuce and Daisy Prairie dogs and much more. They also have a playground (free) and a bounce house and pitching cage (small fee) for kids. It closed at the top of the 8th inning, so be warned and go earlier in the game.
There are lots of food, beverage and snack choices, including an option of getting seats that come with food. We saw several players toss balls into the crowd after a foul or when they were headed back into the dugout, although we didn’t catch any. After the game was over, the kids got to go down onto the field and run the bases–I think that was their favorite part!
To save a few dollars, consider joining Deuce’s Birthday Club. You can also save by purchasing your parking pass online for the convenient parking garage. The season runs until August, so check the schedule and grab some seats before the weather gets too hot. Take the family out to the ballpark in Frisco, and play ball!
