I admit I was spoiled with my son’s previous school where he had access to a microwave and I could send the leftovers from dinner. However, this year he changed schools and that is no longer an option. He keeps asking for those pesky pre-packaged lunch kits (you know the ones) and I’m working my way to a more healthy non-processed food lifestyle. If you do an internet search you can find a lot of resources for creative school lunches (here are some I’ve collected… so far). I like the idea of the bento box. It gives your kids some variety instead of the same old same old sandwich and chips. I’ve looked up bento boxes for kids online and they are NOT cheap (as much as I REALLY wanted to buy some of the cute ones they had, I could buy 2 weeks worth of sack lunch supplies for the cost of one bento box). Soooooo, I bought a reusable plastic container a little bigger than a sandwich size container ($3.99+ tax) and some silicone baking cups ($1/pk of 2 at Target in their dollar section… don’t all go at once, I still need to buy more haha). The rest is just filling it with kid friendly food. Thankfully I don’t have picky eaters so filling the cups is a breeze. My next step is to make several of these at a time to have them available for lunch and snack time for my two boys.
