Behind the Scenes of a Family Photo Shoot.

You think to yourself, “All of the cousins are here!

We don’t have any photos of all of them together.  Get out the camera, quick!”  What could go wrong?

This happened to me this weekend.  A perfectly normal, fun-filled morning out at my in-laws in the hill country.  EB had bedhead, but no big, I jammed it up in a ponytail.  She was also brushing her teeth when I made the impromptu decision to declare said photo shoot, so of course there was a large smattering of toothpaste/drool on her dress for what surely will be framed on Gram Gram’s wall for all of eternity.  This turned out to be the least of my worries.

After a few tasty shots, I wanted to mix up the order of kids on the bench.  Eebs and Ans love each other.  EB wants to hold Ans at every available opportunity.  So trying to get a shot where she is not next to her baby sister?  Disaster numbero uno.  She decided that didn’t want to be in the shot and tears ensued for the handful of frames Ansley sat between her cousins.

After I took precisely 138 (no joke) shots of the four cousins doing basically the same pose and smile on the bench, I realized there was not one legible photograph of my little family together, so I called Hubs outside to the scene of the photo shoot on the porch.  EB was still teary-eyed from not sitting next her sister, so the more we tried to get just *one* good shot, the more chaos ensued.

After 175 more frames, Hubs eventually gave up and went back inside to work on music.  He told his mom to get a shot of him leaving for what would inevitably a blog post.  EB’s cousin H came back outside to ask if she wanted to play.  That left Ans and me.

How big is Ans?  THIS BIG!  It’s her new parlor trick.  She’s now a five-trick pony.  1) waving, 2) standing up from a squat and balancing, 3) putting her arms above her head when I ask how big she is, 4) rubbing the back of her hand over her mouth to make a bob-a-bob-a sound, and 5) leaning in to be kissed if you lean in first.

Side note – I wrote this post a week ago, well after we had all recovered from a photo-shoot-gone-wrong…my camera’s flashcard broke in half!  I’m having to finagle the two parts of the disc to rescue the only documented evidence that the cousins have been at the same place at the same time in addition to all of our immediate family members sitting on the same piece of furniture in the same direction.  Spoiler alert: I rescued the pics by importing them with a cable but now some piece of plastic is wedged in the camera rendering it unusable with all non-broken flash cards.  Le sigh.

A picture is worth 500 hundred blog-post words, I suppose.
