Three Things: Games that Inspire and Entertain your Kids

On those rainy days when we can’t play outside, we love getting out the Play-doh or dress-up clothes… the ideas are endless! We asked the TodaysMama staff to share “Three Things” that inspire and entertain their kids. Happy Playing!

Now that I’m a mother, I find myself teaching my 2-year-old my favorite childhood games and activities. On those rainy days when we can’t play outside, we love getting out the Play-doh or dress-up clothes… the ideas are endless! We asked the TodaysMama staff to share “Three Things” that inspire and entertain their kids. Their ideas were fabulous! You’re bound to find something new to play with your little ones. Happy Playing!

1. Sorting with our button collection - We sort them into muffin tins and mini cake pans.
2. Memory
3. Mr. MacGregor's garden - Typically played in the back yard, but the basement works too. The kids help me "plant" a garden. Then they turn into the bunnies and I'm the gardener. They try and sneak past me to their "hole" without me catching them.

1. Play-Doh - My 2-year-old got the “Play-Doh Kitchen” for Christmas… and I find myself swept up in its magical creations just as much as she is! We love following the recipe cards and creating meals to “eat.”
2. Make-up, Hair, Clothes - My little girl is the epitome of a “girly-girl” and she LOVES watching me do my make-up and hair. She also loves doing fashion shows and changing her clothes multiple times throughout the day.
3. Books & Puzzles - We love going to the library and reading book after book. She is also in LOVE with her wooden puzzle collection.

My kids are only 3 years & 7 months, respectively, so these are simple games we enjoy:
1. I Spy -- great for practicing colors & looking at the world in a new way.
2. Dance-Freeze --"now dance," "FREEZE!" "now dance!" inspires freestyle moves & lots of giggles.
3. Peekaboo -- never gets old, especially when the boys play together.

Rebecca S., Creative Director
We love to:
1. Bake cupcakes
2. Make crafts
3. Play "mom" (aka - playing house)

Erin Oltmanns, Managing Editor
1. Play-Doh. I save it for snowy days when we're trapped inside. Since it's a special treat it keeps her busy for over an hour!
2. ABC Animals iPhone app. It's like flash cards for your iPhone. We use it to practice the ABC's and learn the names of animals.
3. Preschool Puzzles - these are very basic, 5 piece, cardboard puzzles. Great for motor skills and working on language skills. We can sit for an hour and play with the basket of puzzles at our house.

Jen P., TodaysMama Sales Team
1. Peekaboo. It's the game we can do anywhere and it's a great distraction during diaper changes
2. Ball (we roll it, kick it, toss it in a laundry basket, and she loves to sit on it and bounce with my help)
3. Building towers and knocking them down.
