Today is my girl’s birthday so we spent last night making a fine mess of the kitchen while working on her cake. Her request? “Yellow cake and pink frosting.”

Anything for you kid.

It’s been a heavy week. The aftermath of the Arizona shootings and the “Tiger Mom” debate have raged through the online world and I thought that Heather Armstrong made a really thought-provoking point about the situation in Arizona.

Catherine Connors always makes me think, but her take on the Tiger Mom article in the Wall Street Journal reminded me not to overthink every little controversial bit that cruises through the motherhood media lens.

This post from The Jet Set reminded me to pay close attention to myself (and my friends that are expecting soon) as baby #2 joins us in a few weeks.

Speaking of babes on the way, Nicole Balch shared a sweet idea for chronicling the last few weeks with her firstborn as an “only” child.

And for a different kind of sweet—Snickers and Chocolate Chip Cookies from HowTo: Simplify. I can’t describe how strongly I need to have these emerge from my oven this weekend...

But since it can’t be all treats all the time around here, check out this recipe for 2-Minute Steel Cut Oatmeal. I gave this recipe a test run this week and my girl and I have been gobbling it up every morning.

It’s Friday...remember when that used to me that it was time to par-tay?! Or at least, you know, hit the town with your man? Check out this wonderful at-home-date idea from Not Without Salt.

Happy Friday! If you need us, we’ll be in a pink cake coma. :)

The Yay Friday Round Up

This morning I woke up with the overwhelming urge to purge. Someone warn my local thrift store....I’m about to bury them in Gap denim and khakis, circa 2001.
