Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios invited Today's Mama out to Hollywood to attend the premiere of the new animated movie Rio, and I was the one assigned to cover the story.
Shoot, you guys. Darn.
The first thing I did when I got to the hotel room, besides remove as many items of clothing as possible, open the drapes wide and survey the city (yes, in that order,) was order a shrimp cocktail from room service. That’s what you’d do, too, right? Eat a shrimp cocktail in some state of undress?
That’s what I thought.
The next day I meet my fellow bloggers for the walk around the corner to Grauman’s Chinese Theater. We were ushered onto the red carpet--which was blue this time to celebrate the movie’s theme--and placed next to the entrance. I stood on top of Helen Mirren.
Her feet are very small.
Rio stars Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Leslie Mann, George Lopez, Tracy Morgan, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Jemaine Clement, Rodrigo Santoro, and a whole bunch of other famous voices.

I’ve attended plenty of film festivals, but never a real premiere. I loved seeing the people who worked on the movie (writers, artists, foley, editors, animators, cinematographers, musicians) bringing their families to see what they worked to hard to complete.
I was waiting to see if anyone would ask what I was wearing so I could tell them, “Old Navy Maternity--it’s very exclusive” but no one asked. Not even the Fashion Police camera crew who were standing right next to us.
Let’s get to the important stuff: Anne Hathaway’s shoes.
I want them.
I wore beautiful shoes, too, until my body, which is hefting around a 3rd trimester belly, decided it had had enough. I hope no one noticed me slipping off the nude BCBG suede platform pumps and into a pair of black Nine West flats. After standing on the blue carpet in the hot sun for more than an hour, we ran into the theater, where I two-fisted a liter of water and a giant Diet Pepsi, and snarfed down a bag of popcorn--while still wearing flats. Talent: I has it.
After the movie we got to sit down with Leslie Mann, who is impossibly beautiful in person, to ask questions about the movie. Want to know what I asked? You’ll have to come back later this week.
Want to know what I think about Rio? Soon, my chickadee, soon.
You can see Rio for yourself this Friday, April 15th.
