Favorite Spring Beauty Buys

Warm weather has been reluctant to show up around here, so I'm sharing my favorite spring beauty buys. Nothing spruces up a black sweater like raspberry lips!

Do you live somewhere that is enjoying glorious spring weather?

A place where a kicky trench coat and a breezy scarf represent the logical attire transition between a heavy coat and bare arms?

Hmmm...that must be nice.

I live in Utah so spring is represented by 4-5 days of 68 degree weather (appearing at any point between February 1 and May 31) followed by an intensely frustrating return to winter weather. We’ll then enjoy one day at 75 degrees and then we’ll proceed immediately to 95 degrees until September...or possibly Thanksgiving.

You just never can tell.

So what’s girl to do when every catalog and magazine arriving in my mailbox is waving sandals and seersucker in my face?

Head for the beauty aisle, that’s what!

If you’re morning routine still includes a turtleneck and knee-high boots, well, then work with what’s accessible and try out a few of my favorite new spring beauty purchases...nothing spruces up a black sweater dress like raspberry lips. Here are a few of my favorite spring beauty buys.

Urban Decay primer in Sin

I’ve lamented my oily skin before, but I’ve finally found the perfect primer that will allow me to get nuts and wear darker eyeshadows without the makeup creasing and eventually sliding off my eyelid. (I know...it’s a delightful picture.) This primer from Urban Decay is AMAZING and Sin is shimmery enough to wear alone when you’re in a rush.

OPI polish in Extravagance

A dark shade that is still spring-friendly. It’s a nice berry purple with sparkles. Sign me up for anything that includes sparkle.

Cover Girl LipPerfection Jump Gloss Balm in Berry Twist(Not Pictured)

I like dark matte lipstick, but that stuff is high maintenance. These glosses from Cover Girl are low pressure but still give you plenty of color.

NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover

NARS lip pencils are the best—long wearing and easy to apply. The velvet gloss is shimmery and really comfortable to wear. No dry lips...no migration.

Aveda Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Gloss in Raspberry Tea

I’m a big fan of Aveda glosses and Raspberry Tea is a great light pink for spring—equally great at work with a pink liner (MAC lip pencil in Whirl) or on a Saturday with only mascara.

Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime

Even if you’re still rocking head-to-toe black, a nice tropical scent is just what your mind needs to get you through those last (few) winter/spring storms. Plus, it’s a great deal at $7.49.

Please send warm-weather vibes my way...pink lip gloss can only sustain a girl for so long. I need some sunshine.

Making Up For Spring

When March hits and I’ve had it with Winter, the first thing I reach for is a bottle of bright nail polish to paint my toes. Sometimes I’m even so sick of covering up that I pull out the open-toed shoes when the slush is still four inches deep--like I can change the weather with the Force of Footwear.
