I love this Wish List Meme. It’s the perfect thing to help me slow down and make conscious decisions about Christmas rather than spend the month being swept along with crazy shopping and schedules.
Thanks for reading my Wish List. You can read everyone else’s HERE at the bottom of the post!
What is your holiday wish for your family?
I wish for smooth airplane travel. We’re visiting my parents in Wyoming. The 4yo will be fine; the 18mo is very active and, let’s say, vociferous. Otherwise, my wish will come true when I get to spend Christmas with my DH, kids, parents, brother and SIL. I think our last Christmas together was circa 2005, but that was before my kids came along.
What is your Christmas morning tradition?
We wake up, do the Santa stockings, unwrap presents and then make a nice breakfast. Then we spend the day playing with our new things, watching movies and nibbling on the leftovers from Christmas Eve dinner. All in our pajamas.
If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?
I’m always up for a massage, but...Really, I’d love a big ol’ gift certificate to Lowe’s so I can redo our fugly master bathroom. That would be oh! so nice.
How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?
I’m totally with Erin on the holiday light displays. My family calls Christmas lights “pretties.” We drive around looking at the pretties and listening to the holiday radio station. The church down the street knocks it out of the park with a giant Nativity and light display, and I especially love Sunday morning church services at this time of year. Last, some neighbors are getting together to go Christmas caroling later in the month. Old people really get a kick out of this, and I get a kick out of making old people smile. It’s a win-win.
What games did you play with your family growing up?
Monopoly (my grandpa cheats), Battleship, Connect-4 and Eukre (it’s a midwestern card game). My dad isn't into games, so I used to shoot guns with him. I could hit those little spinning metal targets at 100 yards!
What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood?
My family has our own elf. His name is XYZ and he likes to leave miniature notes for the kids, footprints in the window frost, and sometimes leaves little messes to prove his presence. He hangs out in the drapes to oversee behavior and report back to Santa. We’re very lucky to have our own elf.
Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?
We’ve had lots of holiday travel since our family is spread out, but ideally I’d like to spend Christmas in England one year. Charles Dickens and all, you know.
Check out and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?
Dance Dance Revolution is awesome. The only time I played it was on a stage in the BlogHer Expo (yes, I was one of “those” people dorking it out in public) and I keep thinking it would make one heck of a girls night activity. So yes, one of those, please! And I’ll need the Nintendo Red Wii to make it work. And...let’s go with the Wii Fit Balance thingy for New Year’s exercise inspiration.
